Partners

IAC  www.iac.es

KIS and the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) long-standing partnership on the development of instrumentation and the operation of the German solar telescopes on Tenerife has also been expanded to the SDC on the curation, archiving and dissemination of the data from the GRIS (Collados et al. 2012) and IFU (Domínguez-Tagle et al.) instruments at GREGOR. The data from the GRIS and GRIS-IFU instruments are calibrated with the pipeline and under the supervision of M. Collados (IAC).

AIP  www.aip.de

The Leibniz-Institute for Astrophysics (AIP) and KIS are partners in the Consortium operating the German solar telescopes on Tenerife. AIP hosts a GREGOR archive for the access of the GREGOR Fabry-Pérot Interferometer (GFPI, Puschmann et al. 2012, 2013) instrument they own. AIP and SDC are partners in the ESCAPE H2020 and PUNCH4NFDI projects.

Aperio Software Ltd. (UK)  https://aperiosoftware.com/

SDC is partners with Aperio Software for the development of support services like APIs. SDC and Aperio are also partners in the development of a data calibration pipeline for the VTF (KIS) instrument for DKIST within the SOLARNET project.

DKIST/NSO  nso.edu/telescopes/dki-solar-telescope/

The Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope (DKIST) is a four-meter solar telescope on the island of Maui (Hawai’i). It is currently the largest solar telescope in the world. KIS is finalising the construction of the Visible Tunable Filter (VTF) instrument as one of the first-light instruments for DKIST. The SDC together with the VTF Team and Aperio Software Ltd. (UK) are developing, in collaboration with the DKIST Data Center Team in Boulder, a data calibration pipeline prototype for VTF. Further collaborations with the DKIST DC are under development for the mirroring of DKIST science-ready (Level 1) data by SDC.

SCC/KIT www.scc.kit.edu/en/aboutus/index.php

The Steinbuch Centre for Computing (SCC) of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT, Germany) offers extended capabilities for trustworthy large data storage and data management for research in public institutions in the state of Baden-Württemberg, the Helmholtz association and European data infrastructures. SDC and SCC have agreements to build a common enviroment for reseach and storage of large data volumes of ground-based solar data, especially with the vision of storing Level 0 DKIST data and as partners of a Consortium, together with other European institutions, to build a Science Data Centre for EST.

Collaborations

The SDC is participating and collaborating in a number of international projects aiming at developing a common infrastructure for data analysis and research:

SOLARNET   https://solarnet-project.eu

SDC is participating in the SOLARNET H2020 project and coordinating the activities of WP5 'Towards a European Science Data Centre' engaging 12 insitutes from all over Europe. SDC is also contributing to the SOLARNET Virtual Access Programme (WP10) with the dissemination of data through the SDC archive and to WP2 with the analysis of the most efficient means on the management of very large data volumes.

ESCAPE   https://projectescape.eu

The European Science Cluster of Astronomy & Particle physics ESFRI research infrastructures (ESCAPE H2020) brings together the astronomy, astroparticle and particle physics communities. ECAPE puts together a cluster with ESFRI projects with aligned challenges of data-driven research, with demonstrated capabilities in addressing various stages of data workflow and concerned with fundamental research through complementary approaches. SDC is participation in the ESCAPE project integrating ground-based solar data in the Astronomical VO (WP4) in collaboration with the CDS in Strasbourg and GAVO in Heidelberg. SDC is also participating on the European Science Analyisis Platform (WP5) by including high-level ground-base solar data products.

PUNCH4NFDI   https://www.punch4nfdi.de

KIS is a participant of the PUNCH4NFDI Consortium. PUNCH4NFDI is the NFDI (National Research Data Infrastructure) consortium of particle, astro-, astroparticle, hadron, and nuclear physics, representing about 9.000 scientists with a Ph.D. in Germany, from universities, the Max Planck Society, the Leibniz Association, and the Helmholtz Association. PUNCH4NFDI is the setup of a federated and "FAIR" science data platform, offering the infrastructures and interfaces necessary for the access to and use of data and computing resources of the involved communities and beyond. PUNCH4NFDI has been granted funds and will start officially its activities on October 1, 2021. KIS SDC aims to become a full member of PUNCH and federate our efforts on ground-based solar data dissemination to the broad particle and astroparticle communities.
